Boston’s 2030 Climate Action Plan (2030 CAP) is Boston's roadmap for the city to reach our carbon emissions reduction, climate resilience, and climate justice goals. The 2030 CAP transitions from planning into the implementation phase of our work, bringing City departments, local institutions, and community partners together to achieve our shared climate and equity goals. Taking action now will ensure that Boston can be a thriving city for generations to come. 

From America’s oldest public park to the nation’s first subway system, the city has a long history of innovation and tackling complex problems. Leadership has long defined Boston, and that same leadership now drives the City’s dedication to climate action, pairing ambitious goals with decisive local action to reduce greenhouse emissions, increase resilience against climate hazards, and leverage the clean economy transition to create workforce and economic opportunities. 

The 2030 emphasizes that climate change is a threat to the ways Bostonians live, work, and play in the city and that Boston is best positioned to showcase its national leadership in climate action. The CAP not only aims to reduce emissions by 50% by 2030 (compared to 2005 levels), it introduces climate action as a way to address livability and affordability, helping to make Boston the best city for families. Making our built environment healthy and resilient to the future impacts of climate change, ensuring that our transit system safely and efficiently gets users to their final destination, and making energy affordable and accessible are cornerstones of the CAP.
